Here are some comments from Dawn's students

I have been taking drawing and painting lessons from Dawn since I was 12.  Her guidance style stood out to me, as the previous art teachers I had had simply told me what to do and didn’t offer any advice on how to develop as an artist and a critical thinker.  Dawn taught me how to troubleshoot and improve my artwork while taking a hands-off, demonstration-heavy approach to teaching. Her mentorship allowed me to excel in my college painting classes as a Studio Art minor, and has left me with an unending appreciation and love for painting.  She’s the reason why I can call myself an artist today.

From the first classes I took with Dawn at the Salem Library six years ago  to the weekly lessons I continue to take at her Music Vale Studio, the thing I like best is her teaching style. Dawn is there to provide any help I ask for either by doing a demo, providing a reference book from her extensive library or commenting on my work. I find that this type of non-directive instruction is just what I need to continue to grow as an artist

I was very pleased to meet Dawn to restart my creative spirit.
I enjoyed art projects some 40 years ago.
Dawn has help me get back into doing art again after so many years away.
I attend a weekly class she offers and have grown to love art again.
I learn something new every week as she guides me through techniques along with sharing her knowledge of years spent in art training.
From color value to one point prospective and beyond.
I look forward to every week to learn as well as grow.
Dawn is a wonderful teacher letting all develop at their own pace.

Salem Artspace is the go to place for anything art related. Dawn and Jess are very talented themselves, as well as in teaching others! Whether you are going for just a paint night, or weekly for intensive lessons, you will gain so much knowledge. Dawn’s teaching style is so great for letting you develop into yourself as an artist, rather than just telling you what to do and not do. Dawn has shaped me into a creative thinker, and has helped me follow my passion. I am headed off to college to become an illustrator thanks to my Salem Artspace family.
